My Rating:
(4 out of 5)
Ikyu. I have passed by this restaurant many times as it is pretty close where I live. I have always wanted to try the restaurant. Finally, I managed to make a reservation at Ikyu during restaurant week for a birthday celebration. I was so delighted! The best thing is they didn’t fail to disappoint me. A very satisfied dining experience! It is definitely a gem around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood.
Ambience
It is quite a pretty, small and cozy place. When we reached, the place was already half filled. They are mainly in groups of friends or couples. The place has a nice and modern design with dim orange light.
Service
I have notify the service staff that it is a birthday celebration and they were very nice to design the dessert with birthday greeting. The service staff are very friendly and brought us to the table swiftly. They also explain each dish to us when they serve.
Food
We ordered the following:
~Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio Flavoured with Truffle~
Oh my! I love this dish! It looks beautiful. The scallop is so fresh. There is also the fragrance of truffle.
~French Foie Gras Flavoured with Yuzu Miso~
It is a refreshing experience to have Foie Gras with Miso. There is a slight sweetness. It is pretty unique taste.
~Gindara Saikyo Yaki served with Grilled Rice Ball~
Gindara was fresh and thick. It practically just melt into my mouth. The rice ball was so crispy outside and soft inside. The tomato was juicy too.
~Australian Wagyu Tepann Style served with Garlic Rice~
The Wagyu was so juicy and tender. However, I feel the garlic rice was a bit so so but it is not oily. I guess it is an healthier option.
~Miwa Somen & Shrimp Tempura~
This is my first time to try somen. It is a white very thin Japanese noodles made of wheat flour. It reminds me of our chinese mee sua with a bit of QQ. The tempura shrimp is delicious even when it is soaked in the soup. The batter is crispy and tasty.
~Shocyu Cheese Cake~
They design it with the birthday greeting. It is so lovely. The cheese cake complements with fresh fruits. I actually prefer the fruits more though.
~Wafu Mille-feuille~
Everytime i eat mille cake, it is always reminds me of the painstaking effort to bake the cake layer by layer. A customer at another table didn't finish as she was too full. What a waste. Luckily, I managed to finish mine.
